Old Town Walk
Take a walk down the historic lanes of Sutanuti, one of the three original villages that gave birth to Calcutta, and immerse yourself in the legacy of the city’s spiritual, cultural, and intellectual awakening. This is not just a walk—it’s a journey through time, in the footsteps of stalwarts like Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Ma, Swami Vivekananda, Girish Ghosh, and many others who shaped Bengal’s soul.
This neighbourhood is a treasure trove of stories. It’s where Bengali theatre found its voice, where the beloved Rosogolla was first crafted, and where a spirited Irish lady, Sister Nivedita, worked tirelessly for India’s independence and the upliftment of Indian women.
We’ll also try to locate the house where Rabindranath Tagore initiated the tradition of Rakhibandhan as a peaceful protest against Lord Curzon’s partition of Bengal—a symbolic act of unity that still resonates today.
As we walk through narrow lanes and past century-old buildings, we’ll uncover tales of revolution, devotion, creativity, and resilience. Expect to encounter hidden shrines, forgotten courtyards, and the quiet echoes of a time when Calcutta was not just a city, but a movement.
Join us to rediscover Sutanuti—not just as a place, but as a living chapter in Bengal’s story.
