Culture & Curry: From Temple to Kitchen, the Parsi Way
Calcutta, the City of Joy, is rightly famous for its literature, its performing arts, its cuisine, its unreserved enthusiasm for new experiences amongst many other things. But one aspect of the city that is often overlooked is its cosmopolitanism. And that is what we are set to discover in this tour – the luxurious fare of Armenian, Chinese, Parsi and Anglo-Indian cultures spread out in the narrow alleys and lanes of the city.
A Chinese breakfast at Territi Bazaar, visits to the Armenian Church, the Jewish synagogue, the Parsi fire temple, a sit-down Parsi lunch at the Parsi Dharamshala and other unique experiences (revealing which would be spoilers) await us in this fully walking tour, as we take in the cultural mosaic that is our city.
We will walk through the neighbourhoods of the Chinese, Parsis, Anglo Indians and many more!!
And that’s not it, will taste some local foods, pick up some chats, try to find out why the Firangis used to worship Goddess Kali and finish it off in a sweet shop having a Cooke and Kelvey clock with Bengali fonts.
This series of ours, is to highlight the Cultural Mosaic or Cacophony, as we like to say it, and showcase the co-existence of different communities, literally “One para after another” !!
And in a recent addition, (read it, the loooonger format of the walk), we have decked up from Breakfast’s to Lunch’s now, and we are calling it – Culture & Curry, from the Temple to the Kitchen, the Parsi way!
